Why Do Christians Fear Studying End-Times Prophecy?

Is it just me, or is there a renewed fascination with end-time movies in Hollywood? It seems like every three months, an apocalyptic movie comes out, each one more harrowing than the last. movies such as Book of Eli, Edge of Tomorrow, After Earth, Legion, and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. These films give us a glimpse of what it may possibly be like in those final moments when the earth as we know it will be no more. But isn’t it ironic that much of the Christian Church is still indifferent, if not downright disinterested, in the study of the end times, leaving the rest of the world to be “enlightened” by motion pictures?

Spiritual Lethargy

One reason Christians steer clear of anything to do with the study of the end times is spiritual lethargy. They automatically conclude that end-time studies or eschatology are too difficult to understand. This belief comes from the way they read and understand (or misunderstand) the Book of Revelation, the Book of Daniel, the Book of Ezekiel, and others that touch on the end times. The Book of Revelation, in particular, is singled out as being the most difficult to decipher. Its twisted timelines, winding narrative, and dramatic symbols frustrate even the most respected Bible scholars. This has led to pastors all over the world simply ignoring teaching their congregations from the Book of Revelation and other eschatological books.

Mistrust as a result of prophetic abuse

Another reason why Christians neglect the study of the end times is due to the mistrust emanating from the abuse of the prophets. Many false teachers have misinterpreted the prophetic books, some going as far as giving dates when Christ would supposedly come back. Others have purported to know the identity of the Antichrist and, in the process, pointed a finger at many famous personalities and even US presidents. These false teachings have led to a lack of trust in the prophetic and have made Christians wary of the subject altogether.

Fear of the unknown

Additionally, many Christians are afraid to delve into the topic of the end times out of fear of the unknown. They fear the destruction that is to come and what it might mean for their loved ones and themselves. There is also the fear of not being ready or prepared when the end times come, which can be a daunting prospect. The Importance of Studying the End Times The study of the end times is important because it helps us understand what is to come and prepare ourselves for it. In Matthew 24:44, Jesus admonishes us to be ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour we do not expect. The end times will come like a thief in the night, and we must be prepared.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the fascination with end-time movies in Hollywood is not surprising given the current state of the world. However, it is essential for Christians to study the end times to be ready for the coming of Christ. To be ready for what’s coming, we need to get over spiritual laziness and lack of trust and follow what the Bible says. For more on bible prophecy and weekly devotionals, visit EdgeofDawn.
